So, who else is lonely these days?

keep working at school, enjoy being alive and productive. think how bad things could be. make short term attainable goals, make long term goals and work towards them.

Look forward to a long life.

plus spend time with your wife and kid

Be happy in the moment. You're alive, food in your belly, clothes on your back, and a roof over your head. Compared to a lot of people, you live like a king.

And hey, you get to play bass too. :-)

Of my group of best friends, three of the four of us are married. One still works with my company and the other two have moved on.

Then there's my college friends. One just got married and started a new job. The next lives down the shore and is getting his company off the ground. The other two live hours away.

I'm single, completely unattached, and despite my apparent loneliness, I have had the best year of my life.

Sounds like you have an opportunity to make new friends. Take up a new hobby, like scuba diving, or shooting. You'll meet plenty of new, like minded friends there.

If and when your kid takes an interest in a sport, get involved coaching. You'll run across some knobs, but you'll probably find somebody cool to hang with there.

Yeah, I'm no sport nut. If my kid likes it, great, but I'm not pushing that direction. Most sport nuts are knobs in the first place around here.

ummmm...spend time with your wife and kid.

I do, definitely. The issue is, there has to be someone outside of those relationships. With the kid, I'm a parent. With the wife, I'm a spouse. There is no "just a guy" time.

I feel it quite often, these past couple of years have been pretty heavy on the work load (it never really stops). Only see the girlfriend once a week or so and most of my friends are in different cities, we keep in touch but only catch up once every 6 months or so.

While working through your studies, you just need to be aware of the light at the end of the tunnel.

As others have said, spend the time with your wife and child :)
