Exactly what I needed to know - my suspicions are possibly looking good. Many thanks.
The Model J's are considerably darker than the Ultras, but this is pretty encouraging.

As to the volume, bass, mids and treble drop mentioned by blocbul - volume drops tend to severely colour our perception of things when comparisons are made (as salesmen are taught). Once they are compensated for, and two sounds are heard at the exact same perceived volume (ok, within practical terms) one can be surprised, on occasion. (You may have appreciated this, just saying.)
