software with bass emphasis

I would like to know if there are players out there which will play CD's on a computer, but which will really amplify the bass for those of us who are trying to transcribe bass lines.
Also, I understand that MP3 files save computer space by compromising high and low frequencies. Does this make them more difficult for transcribing purposes?

You can compress a wave file to an mp3 with a variable bit rate. Big mp3, but a lot smaler than a wave. The quality is very much good enough.

converting to an .mp3 really just gets rid of the frequencies that the human ear doesn't really care about, if the bit rate is above 128, i seriously doubt that you'll be able to hear a difference from a .wav
