Some audio help please?

Hey, I was thinking this would be a good place to troubleshoot.

I have a Preamp/ poweramp setup that I've been using for my home studio. Today, it ran for a few minutes, and then the sound went off. I get signal to the speakers whenever the amp powers down and that's it. really strange. All of the cables were checked and then I dusted the inside of the amp. Still, no sound, until the amp is on power down mode. strange huh? it is getting the line signal, hence the sound but in operation mode, nothing.... The volume of the amp is controlled by the preamp and the poweramp has nothing more than line in/line out and speaker outs.

yeah isolate each component and see which part fails. Try plugging the preamp into a PA system or something else with a power amp. Then try isolating the power amp. Cabinets. I run a pre/power set up, and I seem to remember there is something about the cords too. Check to see if you need a special chord (mine uses a banana clip). See if that helps.
