Some guy at GC told me that DR strings are having issues right now

I would be willing to bet it's luthier preference. The repair man at my GC just personally doesn't like them. Every time I sold a set of DR's he would make the customer return them, just because he doesn't like them.

What?? If a GC "repair man" told me to return my Sunbeams, I'd tell him to stuff it and walk out of the store. They're my beloved Sunbeams, and it's my bass, and that's just another great reason to learn how to set up your own instruments. Sheeeeeeeesh.

Years ago (at least 5 or 6) I had a problem with B strings prematurely going dead on the Hi Beams. I noticed it on 2 or 3 sets and called DR. They sent me a couple of B strings to try, but each had the same problem. DR was very cool to work with, but I ended up switching to D'Addario for a while. I started using DRs again about a year ago and have not had any problems. That would be a bummer if they have started having quality issues again.

I like DR, however i haven't had good experience with longevity with them.

I think different brands of strings react differently to an individuals body chemistry in their fingers and sweat.
For example, many people love the Sadowsky brand strings but When I tried them they were dead fish thumped after 3 sets. I tried another set of the same strings and the same thing happened.
Some folks say DRs die quicky for them but for me they've been the longest lasting strings I have ever played.
Go Figure.
