Some type of wiring issue

Hello Low-enders,

About a year ago I purchased a heavily used Schecter Omen 5 2003 from a friend who played in a metal band. The bass looked pretty worn out, but it played fine except that the sound would cut in and out occassionally. I replaced the battery and t seemed to keep happening but with less frequency. I was playing it about three months ago and all sound stopped coming out of it. I took the backplate of and looked at the pups to see if there was any seeable problem, but nothing. I really don't know much about wiring and such, but I think it maybe that jack that's causing the problem.

The bass has had EMG Hz Active pups put in, but I am not sure the exact model.

I really don't know if the problem is something I can fix myself or not, but I don't know anyone around here(Southern, IN...close to Louisville, KY) that can help me out.

Any ideas would be much appreciated.

Thanks, Kenneth

Sounds like a bad connection. Probably at a weak solder joint, where either the wire is breaking at that joint, or the old solder is cracking off, something like that. Another likely option is that one of the two contact tabs inside the jack are bent back too far, to where they don't make steady contact with the plug. That second one is a super easy fix: just bend the tabs in so they connect securely when you plug in the cable. The first one will require some more sleuthing in person (not over the internet), and it's worth it to take it to a tech who knows how to troubleshoot and fix this sort of thing.

I would check to make sure all the connections are good.
As Bongomania stated, check out the output jack to make sure it makes good contact.

This bass (aside from the pickups) is passive, correct?
Passive controls are usually rock stable, so i would be tempted to say that the pickups could be the problem. Either the pickups or the jack.

BTW, i believe your signature was a reference to my fingerboard. :D:hyper:
