I just got rid of all my basses except for one. Then GAS strikes once again.

What are the string spacing on these? I've read the spacing is very tight but how tight?

Very - like 5 strings on a 4 string neck tight.

Always been intrigued by these, though... And that looks like a nice one. BIN is pretty reasonable, too.

That's one of the few early ones made with the "sickle" headstock. Leo was still alive and running the show when that one was made.

Didn't all the early ones have the black "crinkle" pickguards? The white pearloid looks to me like an aftermarket one...

The seller says everything is stock except the pickguard & something else. I do not remember.

I think that headstock is very cool.

I'm getting gassy all of a sudden... It would already be sold had the previous owner not put that new pickguard on it. That's the only thing I don't like, it looks tacky and I'm pretty sure any new one would look out of place on that vintage beaut.

seller was very coy when asked about condition, and said no major issue but when asked about any issues just replied again no major issues. He also has a curbow for sale.....

yeah I almost jumped....but just got disapointed by an SB-2 I bought on the bay.....neck was shimmed with guitar picks, truss rod was frozen and the screws and poles on the pickups were rusted and frozen......real sad....had to convince the buyer that it was not a usable bass....

He also sells cheap pickguards, what a coincidence.

I have one of these. Like it a lot. Yes, the string spacing is very tight. Works out good for me(small hands). Mine is a sunburst/rosewood bass. This seems like a very reasonable price except for the pick guard. Don't think different strap buttons would effect my decision if I were interested.

String spacing is super tight on these. The neck is a normal 1.75" wide neck and the bridge is the normal 4 string baseplate with 5 saddles squeezed into it. If you want actual measurements I can measure my L-5000 but it's tighter than any other bass I've ever played.

Sounds like the spacing is way too tight for Herrick. I play finger-style. That's probably a good thing because I really shouldn't be buying any stuff right now.

The pickguard looks nice to me. As I recall, the original was black, which looked very dull. Still, it's overpriced. It's been up for auction for a long time, and not so much as an offer.
