Someone Please Buy This G&L L-5000

I always make fun of people that call the current headstock on G&Ls "deal-breakers."

And then I see that old "sickle" headstock and say, "No way. Too ugly."

What's a fair price on these?

I think the right price would be around $600, give or take. It's a rare bass, sure, but it's not particularly desirable. As others have mentioned, the string spacing is tight, and it's not known as a great souding 5-string. At $850, you could buy a nice vintage L-1000 or L-2000, which sound and play great.

I concur.
There are a few of these with "normal" G&L headstocks which would be worth upwards of $1200 to $1500 depending on woods, finish, condition.
But not this NHL headstock in black

seller was very coy when asked about condition, and said no major issue but when asked about any issues just replied again no major issues.

That would be it for me right there. No sale.

I walked into my local GaS store today and found one of these. All black, rosewood fingerboard, original pick guard and with Leo's name on the head stock. They tell me it's a 91, but first purchased in95. All original paperwork and catalogs and user manual. It certainly looks collectible, but... I wanted it because it freakin plays like butter. This is in relation to my other axes which are Zon and Alembic and 70s Fender. This L5000 has awesome sound, excellent action, no buzz, no immediately findable dead spots (all have dead spots). If you find one of these, it's worth snagging it.
