I played one at a music store once and I fell in love with it. you know, the moments where you go I GOTTA HAVE THIS BASS

fortunately, I didn't have money until the bongo came out so now I can buy a bongo with the money intended for a stingray

Well it's new bass time, keeping the jazz though, so I want something a little different. I was thinking of a higher end ibanez like the SDGR900, which is neck thru, or an LTD B-404SM, but I have a good deal going for a 4 string stingray. I did play the B-404SM and it felt really good, sounded nice too, but I don't know if the finish will grow on me. I haven't played a SDGR900 so I don't know how it feels or sounds. I like the stingray look, and I did play one of them at guitar center, the neck was a little thick for my liking, but I may be able to get used to it. I played it through a crappy Line6 amp because they didn't the SVT3Pro (what I have) setup to play. I owned a warwick 4 string corvette and had to get rid of it because after long time of playing, I had this crazy cramp in my palm, but I don't have that with my jazz, so thinner neck's are a plus. I want something besides another jazz that can handle more metal which I like to play. What does everyone else think?

In Australia, an MM4 will cost 2.5k (street) and it doesn't get much better. The RRP is around 3.25k. Yet most working musicians use either those or a Fender J or P which also cost more than twice what they do in the U.S. The point is that we use them regardless. How many working players use anything else regularly? There's lots of great basses out there but Fender J, P and MM show up so often that to ask yourself why would be akin to asking why more people don't drive exotic and "better" performing cars. The answer is that it's not necessary. (It doesn't mean you shouldn't do it though). Turn on the TV or better, go see some decent band live and look at the bass players rig. More likely than not, it'll be a stinger or some type of Fender through an Ampeg. This is not to denigrate any other decent bass or amp system, it's purely an observation based upon years of playing and watching others. Sure there's "better" gear but can all of these players be so wrong?
Try a stingray and if it feels right, buy it.
