Something even a mother couldn't love

This just popped up in my email. Granted, it's a guitar, but really, what were they thinking? Looks like a horde of beavers nibbled on it?
Whatchu talkin' about, Willis?
Oh yeah, it was a limited edition promo kind of thing from Gibson…c'mon, it wasn't that bad. Think of what it took to cut that on a jigsaw.
Late 80's band, Raging Slab, a kind of Skynyrd/Southern rock send-up outfit, had a slide guitarist(the late Elyse Steinman)who used those…

Last time I saw one of those was about 40 years ago hanging on the wall at Haggerty's music works in Rapid city South Dakota.

The fact that I remember it tells me it's something a collector would want.
I'm glad I'm not a collector... well as long as you don't ask my wife....

I enjoyed Raging Slab way more than I should have. They'd get rotated with Junkyard and Drivin N Cryin when my eardrums needed a break from heavier stuff in my collection.

They also had an American flag version and a red, white and blue Americanish(?) motif also. I'm pretty sure Trogly linked above owns several and has done videos on them. There may have been a fancy top or two as well. I definitely remember them from the Gibson advertising of the time.

Yeah. Those were real. I think they may have been in the Gibson ads back in the day with the Korina Explorers and GoldTop RI. Same era.

Why am I envisioning a video short of someone pouring epoxy onto a live edge plank… Modern Times.

Someone found the or a ad😊

The Korina Explorer ad was titled Vintage Voltage as I recall. It left an impression because I tracked one down.

I haven't seen the red white and blue variant.

I knew a guy back in college who ran into some money and bought one, iirc, the red, white and blue painted American flag version. Seemed pretty cool back then, in an abstract way. I mean, it's not what I would have spent my money on, iffin I'd had any to speak of. But for someone else to own if they could afford it, why not. It was certainly interesting. But yeah, it wasn't what I would have bought for myself. My thought now is that it's something that would look cool hanging on the wall of one's man cave, behind the bar. Pretty expensive ornament though.

Finally, I'll say that they looked cooler when new, with a shiny new finish, than that one shown for sale now looks in the Guitar Center ad — that one looks drab and kinda sad, with an old 'dark 70s wood paneled kitchen that has long needed remodeling' vibe to it. Regardless, they never looked super practical
