The headstock is finished in a hard finish and the back of the neck is oiled, which gives it that hard line on the back.

Same on my Classic which was a custom order and has a satin finish (instead of laquer) on the back of the neck and a hard finish on the headstock.
On some pictures it looks exactly like this one.

I don't use an oil finish on my builds, but I generally only polish out the headstock area, which looks very similar to that. It makes for a very nice feeling neck, and you still get the aesthetic of the high gloss on the headstock.

No idea, I didn't know until I came across this thread either. From what I gather, the EX series was MIJ with US parts. I think it would be very cool to own a rare bird like that. That bass is definitely legit.

Not me, I'd pass. I'd save my money and get one of the Classic Series StangRays with the 3 band eq and tinted finish on the neck. Those are the best 'Rays they're making right now.
