Okay, something international. Here's what happened on Wednesday in Belgrade:

Some kid who was on treatment in a psychiatric hospital went to a bridge in Belgrade holding a gun, claiming that he'll kill anyone who approaches him and throw himself off.

First, the cops blocked the traffic because he had a gun. After an hour or so of negotiation, a police officer approached the guy to give him a phone to call his mother and grabbed him immidiately: he let go, but the cop held on to him so he didn't fall of the bridge. A smart thing to do? I don't know, a very risky tactic. Anyway, he fought back, but a dozen policemen were more than enough to handle him and ship him back to the hospital.

The thing is, we've got huge traffic jams in rush hours in Belgrade mostly because we lack bridges. One bridge means 45-60 minutes of waiting alone. The closing of the bridge has made things much worse, and the citisens went mad. They were actually appalled because the traffic was temporary shut down, and that the police was even trying to help him that much.

There is Invalid Link Removed: the video is on the bottom of the page. See the mob for yourself. Citisens actualy yelled at the boy, demanding that he jumps, shoots or anything to end it, laughing.

In the video, the huge man says: "Give me the gun, I'll kill him myself, make things easier for him, the #$@%#$%$@#... You know why? Look at the mess he's made! The jam streches to the airport! I mean, what kind of an $%#^@ is he?"

Then the woman says that she doesn't care about him whatsoever, she is trying to get home, that this all doesn't make any sense.

All the while, people were filming the event with cell phones. One young mother even took a picture with her children smiling and hugging with the suicidal maniac showing in the background.

Lack of compassion... Though he didn't have to do it in the middle of the day :hiding:

Going home is more important then a man's life. They should have shot him ASAP!

Also your police force should have snipers.I've seen the same thing happening in the US IIRC and they shot the "gun" and jumped on they guy.You can change the aim towards the head too.

Where did he get the gun?
Not info on that.. Apparently the guy had been in a mental institution earlier, but was living at home at the time this happened. His parents divorced and his father has made his life miserable: this is not the first time he's tried to kill himself and both times it was a retribution of some sort to his father.

In reading other sources, there were normal people at the event too, go figure. They tried to make the mob silent, to let the police do their work. I guess their comments were left out in the article I've read because they ruin the point of the article. They said that the woman taking pictures should have been institutionalized as well.
