Something isn’t right about this Fender???

There were plenty Fotoflame necks.

Not all came with them. I sold My Fotoflame Strat which I'd had for 20 years a couple of weeks ago. That had body and neck.

If you look at the back of the headstock, you will see a faint silver logo, that's the Fotoflame logo.

All Fotoflame necks used the same transfer which had the 'Hamburglar' in the grain. It's on that neck. See photo below.View attachment 2958751

The back of the headstock is flat. The back of the neck is round. That's why it looks bookmatched as it's cutting through the grain. At least that's how it works when I'm in my shop turning large dowels from maple...or any other well grained wood for that matter. In fact, I've got cheap old broomsticks that look bookmatched if viewed from advantage.

While you're not necessarily wrong, I've seen plenty of necks, flame or otherwise, that definitely didn't look bookmatched. Also reference said "flat" appearance in the photograph. I've also got an old double bass with a bit of fotoflame going on with the thing, on the parts that weren't sloppily varnished over, it's got a very similar "flat" look to it.

In regards to the 2D/3D nature of real vs Fotoflame... A quick test of Fotoflame (in person) is to just rock the instrument back and forth while looking at the flame. If the adjacent ribbons roll over each other like waves crashing on the beach, it's real. If they don't, it's Fotoflame.

I definitely notice it now that you say it. The oly white one doesn't look like it has the dark foto flame on the head stock. They do look like two different basses.

The 58 is the Sunburst. Its a PB-58 model. G series made in the 80's.

Lol no flames here. The white one is a MIM. Nothing special. Just got a tort guard and fender 62 pickup for it. Tried to make it look like a 62 RI.

I have a fotoflame jazz bass, and its one of the best necks ive ever played. the fretbwork is perfect, and its a slightly thicker jazz bass. my big hands prefer it. It's somewhere between a C and U shape.

i'm not an expert but it looks fine, only thing that struck me was the "made in japan" neck heel stamp that nobody seems to thing is suspicious, so it probably isin't.

The paint chips are in the exact same place on both and the fuzz of the string silks matches. Probably just a photo thing.

My CIJ Jaguar has it and I think my MIJ Mustang does, too.

You guys got this all wrong. You have to read it more closely. It's not "all stock" and "hard case". It's "all stock hard case". So it's super legit.
