Forgive the question, but what's the comparison of scale length of the Hofner vs. the Rick he played later?
Just going by sight I'm thinking there's got to be at least a 2-inch difference, and it always impressed me that Macca was able to adapt. Even the 1 inch of difference between my two basses (a P-Bass at 34 and an Ibanez BTB at 35) takes adjusting for me.
In fact, the total playing experience between the Hofner and the Rick is so radically different that it must have taken him some serious adjusting all around, I've always thought.
