Something wrong with my bass tone?

THAT was really cool - thank you for sharing! Hearing them all back-to-back like that, playing the same groove (and that was a pretty tasty groove!), really lets you hear the differences. I wasn't surprised that I like the P the most, but I wasn't expecting to like the MM and TBird as much as I did.

Ok.. if this has been asked and I've missed it. my apologies. But you say you want to sound "brighter".

The first question that comes to my mind is - What is your tone knob set to? And what about your high eq knob on the bass? Those two right there should let you know how bright your bass can get. Turn both of those knobs up. Go from there.

Other than EQ's and after that, string type - sometimes a bass just has it's own sound.

Determine what YOUR sound is, or if you want to sound like a bassist you've heard before.. try their gear. And if it still isn't doing what you want, technique is all that's left.

The bass is passive anyway. It just has an active EQ, and yes, I've changed the battery a week ago.
