So I thought I'd write and record a song about ~mental health~ and it came out like this. No I don't know why I decided the whole thing had to be in 5/8. It just seemed to me to be a rhythmic state of mind that aped the feeling of perpetually being on the edge?
It's also been interesting to me, a formerly 'flashy' player, to really settle into the happiness of more 'functional' bass playing. I mean, this is just lock-step poopie with the kick-drum and I've never been happier to simply serve. It's actually quite difficult to keep this tight and consistent for four or whatever minutes, which is a lark and a half.
Sometimes I look back on my earlier bass writing and I'm just like: That was completely for yourself. You made the song sound worse. The cringe!
