I support the rule: using short words is something that should be avoided. If a song can't be derived without going against the suggested way of playing, one should avoid playing using it. The song in question was "Hanging On The Telephone": it's not entirely impossible to play with a song where the title has 'hanging' or 'telephone' in it.

I disagree. That would exclude songs such as Stephen Bishop's "On And On" which has been used in the past without objection
