just wanted to share this old piece of gear that i've been fortunate enough to own for the last 20+ years or so. Its a 1966 Universal Audio 175-T tube comp/limiter. I removed it from our studio the other day to test its tubes and make sure that everything is copacetic. I gotta say, that even when you don't even use the compression (which by the way, is the best i've ever heard), just running a bass thru it gives you this huge, full bodied tone that is in a class all by itself. i've used it on vocals, guitar, drums, sax......... whatever, and no matter what i've ever put thru it, it always comes out better, as if it were designed just for each specific instrument.
now looking at its light metallic blue case, and giant knobs, i used to think it was a little funky looking, but now that i've grown older, i've come to appreciate its majestic beauty.
anyway, i'm babbling now, but just wanted to take a moment to share this somewhat historical piece of gear thats been used on more records than most people can imagine.
