never really heard or tried a tonebender. However as just mentioned, the Supercollider, which I did own, is kind a a mix between the BB and GS. not quite as dark and doomy as the BB but not as bright and cutting as the GS.

it really depends on where you want to sit in the mix.

Having had all three pedals mentioned, I can safely say neither one sounds like a Tonebender. You can purchase either one and have a totally different flavor. The mids knob on the GS will be able to get you closer to a Tonebender sound, but it's still a totally different animal!

The Tonebender's strength has always been in the midrange content, which makes it great for slicing through a mix. :D

It's killing me. Everytime I start to lean one way I end up wanting to lean the other way. Did you just have the stock grey stache. That's a big factor because it has so many mods available. The bluebeard is the bluebeard. The grey stache can have the oscillation, diodes, extra sustain setting, tone bypass etc. If I do end up siding with the grey stache I don't even know what mods I would put on it.

Vegas, I feel like you have owned like every effect ever made. Anything that is brought up you have always owned it hahaha

That bit about the Bluebeard not cutting through the mix is absolute garbage. It has been an always on pedal for me in 3 different bands over the past 3-4 years, and the last thing anyone would say about me is that I get lost in the mix.

In regards to BB vs GS, both are fantastic pedals. I think most people would be happy with either. I agree the BB is a little smoother sounding, with the GS having a bit more diversity. I don't think you can lose either way. Obviously the GS is easier to find.

Can't find any of my sound clips at the moment, but here's a video of my band playing live. All the bluesy parts are with the Bluebeard. All the heavy parts are Bluebeard + El Oso.

Thats good news to hear about it not getting buried in the mix. Bassfuzz.com has a pretty good breakdown of the bluebeard pedal. It can get really intense gain settings. Sounds like a heavier "gainier" pedal whereas most of the stuff I hear about the stache seems to be that its more mid-rangy and grindy sounding

My Grey Stache just has the switchable Silicon / LED / No Diode settings, and I will say that the diode switch is very useable for different needs. To my ears the diodes have alot of affect on the pedal's bass response (one very bassy, one standard, and one tinny). Mine has an oscillation mod which I never use as it really only has an effect at high Sustain (fuzz) levels and I keep my Sustain minimized. The gate or boost options would be good if you need that... personally I like using a different flavor drive pedal as my boost after the Grey Stache.

The Fuzzrocious mods are nice bell-and-whistle attachments to add some more features to already outstanding pedals, but if you don't specifically require any of the mods, I'm sure you'd be happy with the basic offering.

Just to sum it up, I own both Bluebeard and Grey Stache and IMO they are the most badass muffs I've ever played.
I've compared them with many cool muff-based pedals - Supercollider, Musket, Pharaoh, Colossus, Tall font Russian, and also 'cult classic' Green and Black Sovteks.
Finally I kept BB, GS and Green Sovtek. With my 4003 and Orange Bluebeard seems to work better then Grey Stache, but with jazz bass the Stache gives more grind.
