Sorry Guys, another Ashdown question...

Since I can't demo them I am going on other peoples word. As long as they are returnable I will take the chance. I have finally decided on the Mag 300 2x10 combo, but am also considering the 1x15. I will add a cabinet to it sooner or later. I really want a solid bottom to end up with, but since the 210 has side handles I am leaning to that one. Anyone know the tonal differences between the two as stand alone amps? Thank you.

I have the MAG210T-300. I love it, and it gets LOUD, especially when I use my VT Bass pedal. I've thought about adding the 15" extension cab, but honestly haven't needed to, so I've held off.

Theoretically, the 2x10 will push more air than the 1x15. The 2x10 also has a tweeter. You're going to get a tighter, more defined sound than versus the 1x15. Don't let that make you think that the 2x10 won't boom though...

Keep in mind though that either way, you're pretty much getting 150w until you add an extension cab.

<edit> Also, don't forget that these have a DI built in. That's also been a factor in why I haven't added a cab.

Thank you, that is exact kind of info I was looking for.

Good job; the 10s are only 100 watts each and will blow very easily if you start hitting a botton B string very hard.

I'd go for the 1x15

I actually was in contact with Ashdown support about this very thing before buying the amp. They said that since the amp was designed to push 300w with a cab, that there would be no problems with the speakers.

The frequency response is actually pretty good for the low B as well...

I would get the 210 if you're going for the combo, you might want to look at head/cab if you are going for portability. As if you get a 210 and a 115, you just leave one cab at your house and one at your practice space, then you only have to take the head with you. And then use both cabs for gigs

Have you gigged with the 2x10 combo? I shared a gig with another bassist who used an Ashdown 2x10 300; it farted like hell, I have both speakersa in my workshop, I replaced them for him with Eminence 250 watt Beta 10s.
Did Ashdown mean 300 watts with an added cab as well as the on board 10s? which is what you would get with another 8 ohm cab.

yeah you only get the 300 watts when you add another 8 ohm cab

Yeah, I gig with it, it's the only bass amp I currently own. I have not noted any flatulence.

What he said.

I have the Mag 300 head with an Ashdown 2x10 cab with the tweeter. I've played out with it with and with out another 2x10 Mesa or a 4x10 Hartke. Always sounds great, does whatever I need.:bassist:

You would not be able to use just that in either of my bands, there is no way that a 2x10 will handle anything but the softest of material at true live performance levels unless augmeted by PA.

I think I pointed out that it has a DI. IMHO, if I'm going to need to be louder than my amp, then we need FOH support. It gets plenty loud, and we don't need deafening stage volumes.

Dude, that's just wrong. You obviously don't understand what you're talking about. The Mag 300 combos only run at about 180 watts until you add another cab, which makes them run at 4 ohms. I've gigged with my 2x10 and had no problems farting. The only problem you'd see is if you didn't know how to adjust your input and had the preamp cranked all the way up before you cranked the EQ. I've also gigged with my 2x10 with a 15" cab and it rocked. I couldn't imagine needing anything more except in a very large club or at an outdoor festival. Maybe you just didn't have enough time to understand the amp....

I have to agree with some of the others as far as the 210 not being a loud amp. You could gig with it as a stand alone but you are pushing it really hard and I don't suspect it will last. Great sound but the 210s just do not move a lot of air. Add a second 210 and it will help.
