Sorry Sire

This is why 2x j pickup configuration has been irreplaceable for me since.. forever. That's just the sound I want. Since I always run both pickups full open, I have setup the pickup height to only be functional when both pickups are full on - this means that the neck pickups pick a waaaay stronger signal than the bridge pickup, so even though there's some scoop, the neck pickup tone still comes through BUT the tone is still scooped enough in the 'pillowy' mids that it sounds huge!

Yup. I set my pup heights up for equal volume when either is run alone, which gives a more neutral tone with both full on together. Then, when I want the scoop, I simply back off the bridge volume a bit.

How is this not in bass humour ( some..)?

I owe Sire an apology! Just fooling around before going to my lesson, I realized I was adjusting my midrange backwards! I needed to that top mid range pot more than the bottom of that stack!:smug: Now my slap tone has come to life. I will still save for MetrolineExpress because I prefer the Sadowsky neck and base tone by a wide margin, but the V7 does deliver the goods, once you learn how to work it!:D:bassist::bassist::D

so...why do you owe Sire an apology?!

I love Stingrays, but I am sticking with Jazz Basses for now.

With the exception of your Pedulla fretless, it looks like you've discovered that you are a Jazz Bass man at heart.
I can understand this, having recently come to the conclusion that even though I like Jazz and Precisions, Im a Stingray Special 5 Lady at heart. This realization came about by owning many other basses and being introduced to the Ernie Ball quality via my Caprice. When these new Specials came out, I reluctantly tried them because I missed the B string but never got along with prior Stiingrays. But these new Specials checked all the boxes for me.
I think its possible that owning the DJ5 led you to the Sire which reminded you of how much you desired a great active 5 Jazz. You've talked about Sadowsky for a long time. Perhaps the new price point of the Metro express is just what the Dr. Cheese ordered. ;)

I think you are right about me loving Jazz Basses. I really do love Jazz Basses. I love the way Stingrays sound, if they put wider spacing on their fives, they would be more attractive to me. Getting the Sadowsky is ideal for me. I should been disciplined and bought one years ago.

If you don’t want to spend 7:30 of your life on a dodgy performance at a choir rehearsal, I can’t Blame you, but I am really happy with this tone. It is hard for me to say, but I do not miss my DJ5 at all. I hope a Sadowsky MetroExpress is in my future because Sadowsky is step or two better in everything I like about my V7 but Sire is producing a great bass. I am really happy I have one.

You should be able to do everything you want with your Pedulla and Sire. Same goes for your Pedulla and a Sadowsky. Sounds like you would probably enjoy it more with the Sadowsky .

I am sure I would enjoy the Sadowsky more, but I am only now coming to appreciate my Sire. Mine is heavy at 10lb 3oz,g, but that is not a dealbreaker for me. I think I am still figuring out how to get my sound out of it. I am liking my V7 much more than I did earlier. I think I will buy a Sadowsky since it has haunted me forever, but if a Sire were my only active Jazz, I will be very happy.
