We used the sound of the band we were partially filling in for and opening for. The guitarists were miked and I used XLR out of my amp. The sound guy said that is just for recording, the crowd would hear the amps just fine. The guys said ok, but that is because they misudnerstood. I told them we weren't going to hear the amps through the monitors or FOH. We like a low stage sound and want to hear eachother. The guitar amps are so directional, you know? My amp did play for FOH though, which is fine.
Anyway, since I caught that we got the guitars in the PA mix and the monitors and we sounded great. The following band, whose sound it was anyway, didn't sound too good. They didn't put the guitars through the PA... This band sounded fantastic the other show where the venue provided pro sound. Not bad this time, but not nearly as good as us.
Next week we will have pro sound, so pretty excited to see how that turns out.
