Sound in a basement.

What are some options we (my band and I) can do to muffle the sound in our basement practice space. We want to minimize reflecting sound waves off of the walls and concrete floor.

Whats my options?

Lots of carpet. Everywhere.

A quick and cheap fix I've seen at a lot of basement shows and such is old mattresses against any large flat walls as well.

Even better: mattresses in corners. The air behind the mattresses helps dampening as well.

There are cheaper, and probably less effective options out there (including standard moving blankets), but I've actually had very good results with these in my bands practice/recording space...

I had them draped over some clothing racks to use as portable/easily movable gobos in the corners and in front of the drums... made quite a large difference.

For the floor, buy some cheap area rugs.
