Any ideas on how I can make a jazz bass sound more like a stingray in a practical,easy way for live settings (please don’t say “buy a stingray”)?

No. Just no. There’s not a way. There’s just no other answer. I have no intentions of sounding snarky. Except to get someone’s replacement MM-style pickup and MM-style preamp and put it in the oh-so-famous MM sweet spot. That might get you close. Might.

I spent many years trying to get other basses to sound like a Stingray. In my experience, only 2 instruments sound like that. A Stingray and a Sterling. Not even my Bongo sounds anything like a Stingray.
Also...
I just picked up a Short Scale Stingray, and a Sterling by Musicman SS Stingray. The SBMM cost 1/4 the price of the MM, and the difference in tone between the 2 is indistinguishable. I'm doing recordings right now, swapping back and forth, and I can't tell. So, in short, I won't tell you to buy as Stingray - at least not a MM one, BUT, if you're really after that sound, check out some Sterling by Musicman. If not, knock yourself out like did until you give up - and then buy one
