Double Bass soundpost positioning with strings under a light tension

When positioning the soundpost, do you take the strings completely off, or do you keep strings under a very light tension?

I used to take them off, but recently I started to keep E and A on. I tune them down so that they can barely produce a tone. This leads to a looser post fit, I am not still decided if the sound benefits from this.

I have never seen a luthier doing this under tension except Chuck Traeger mentioned this in the book. Anyone else doing this?
