Source audio Aftershock VS Genzler Crash box 4?

Have anyone here tried both? I've been wanting to get a more versatile drive pedal, (for both slightly tube driven, and a some more agressive, but classic crunch). These two options seem good, but I don't really know how they compare.

Other suggestions are also welcome! Blend knob or individual clean/dirty volume is a must have.

I have both the 4 on the Floor and the Aftershock. They are both versatile and can do mild OD and more aggressive distortion tones. The Aftershock is amazingly versatile - the 6 factory-installed tones are great, but there are hundreds more that you can find on the SA website and download and tweak with the phone or laptop editors. https://neuro.sourceaudio.net/
The Aftershock can also do fuzz tones. The 4 on the Floor is easier to use, but has fewer tones. Both sound great. Why not find a place that sells both with free returns and see for yourself?

SA EQ2 and Empress ParaEQ Deluxe?

WHY not use the second channel of the EQ2 independently and have the same functions offered by the Empress ParaEQ Deluxe?

I've owned both, it just seems like extra cost, board space and actually fewer channel specific features when considering how you could set the #2 channel on the EQ2?



(The SA After Shock is a monster...the Ultra Wave Bass is another distortion thing altogether, but the Spectrum Intelligent Filter has 13 types of mixable distortion effects, too. Spectrum is my dirt box.)

I haven’t used the Genzler, but it was the dirt pedal I had my eye on when I picked up an Aftershock for cheap and now I can’t imagine needing another drive pedal. I think I would prefer the interface on the Genzler but the Aftershock is both smaller and has six presets. It’s just a great sounding and versatile pedal.

The interface is pretty straightforward, too, if you use the Neuro app.

It’s actually been knocked off my board because I got an Ultrawave, which does a lot more, but I actually prefer the Aftershock. It’s much easier to dial in a good sound.

To me, the price you can get an Aftershock (or LA Lady or Kingmaker, they’re all the same pedal with different default presets) makes it really hard to justify anything else.

If asking how to do it, go into Nuero Editor 3 and you can turn off the filter effects and so on and run the distortion section on it's own. Also, my solo distortion needs are not as extensive as some have.

I have no community presets on this Spectrum at this time.

Spectrum is intended to do 3 things well:
1) Filter
2) Octave
3) Distortion

Note that the envelope triggers off the CLEAN signal, but the filter works on the WET signal. This is a huge plus over separate pedals (unless you have a side chain - Spectrum can do that too ).

This is my board at this moment...

The two missing spots up top (right to left are: Boss MO-2 Multi Overtones & Boss SYB-5) and the lower right will shortly be a Boss RE-202 Space Echo.

The signal chain is/will be:

BC-1X > SYB-5 (WET > CRBP > SIF #2/DRY > SIF #1 with Mono OUT) > B/BA > OPUS (DI with Cab Sim and 1/4" Output without cab sim)

That is the front end MONO Bass signal with ENORMOUS sonic capabilities thanks to the SPECTRUM Intelligent Filter. (I have the SA 168 midi adapter hooked up under the board running off of the 5 DIN Midi from EQ2 and utilizes the midi Thru (1/8" TRS) to the Two Notes Opus for channel #1 control with the SA 165 SOLEMAN).

Note: the SA 161 Dual Expression Pedal runs #1 to the SOLEMAN for (a) a Volume Pedal on the EQ2 stereo WET side chain OR can be assigned a function with the SPECTRUM & (b) #2 will be placed in the SYB-5 (Exp Input) for available control of the LFO/Envelope characteristics when/if engaged. (The SYB-5 also has a HOLD function on the WET output and no effect on the DRY output.)

OPUS > MO-2 (stereo output) > SL-2 > RE-202 > RC-5 > EQ2 > Stereo Field

The AMAZING utility of the EQ2 as the Master EQ (with HPF/LPF settings - Limiter - Gate - Boost - Tuner - (not to mention graphic or parametric EQ and possibly Dr. Who's Tardis?) is an unbelievable tool for the end of this synth chain.

Note: the RE-202 (unlike the RE-2 or RE-20) has control of the preamp for distortion/saturation for this side chain and can be run on its own like the SPECTRUM can run distortion on its own, too.

I no longer own an Amplifier or Speaker Cabinet...

If I could only own/use three pedals it would be the Spectrum Intelligent Filter (SA 168), SA 161/165 & EQ2. (The OPUS, of course, is my amp/cabinet)

The other are very nice as well, but have other tasks.

Thank you! I need to dig deeper. This is my 2nd or 3rd spectrum and I was consciously trying not to get too lost in the details. But maybe it’s time. I have used the octave more than ever before and love it. Sounds great and super simple.

I have been putting some more thoughts into the Source Audio Trifecta...

Bass > EQ2 Channel #1 (Parametric) > SPECTRUM Intelligent Filter Channel #1 > EQ2 Channel #2 (Graphic) > SPECTRUM Intelligent Filter Channel #2 > OPUS

Bringing in the SOLEMAN & Dual Expression Pedal system with total midi control architecture...and the TRRS cable with the DEP + SA 168 midi adapter...
