Source Audio Neuro App improvement thread

It was mentioned in the mega thread that SA is (or will be) working on a new version of the Neuro App. A consolidated thread of wantsies might be useful. Many or all of these issues may already be on the road map for the new software. For the record, I’m a lightweight Neuro user, with only one pedal (an Aftershock).

1) Edit patches in the cloud directly. Currently, when editing a patch from the user library, it has to be selected and loaded into temporary memory, then edited, then before it can be saved to the cloud, it has to be burned to a slot on the pedal, and then saved to the cloud from there. There is also no intelligence for overwriting existing patches with the same name, it just always creates a new patch, which requires going back and manually deleting the old one from the user library.

2) Library organization. User patches are currently just a long list that at some point spills over to another page. Folders would be an improvement. And the ability to re-order patches in the user library, preferably by drag and drop. And when selecting the cloud tab, the user’s own library should be the default view, not the community patches, because bless their hearts, but really, most them aren’t, um, “optimal for my use case”.

3) More efficient screen layout. See the attached screenshot for the Aftershock. There’s a lot of unused space, which requires unnecessary scrolling to access controls. The control groups (left channel, right channel, parametric EQ, etc…) could arrange dynamically into smarter columns, based on available screen size. This is easy to see with the Aftershock because it has limited controls. Other pedals with more extensive controls wouldn’t be as flexible. This may also be a real headache in terms of programming resources.

4) Double click to reset default value. Or some other shortcut to reset a control to it’s default value instead of dragging the control or manually entering a number.

5) Onboard documentation. Some explanation of the function of the controls, even an abbreviated one, should be readily accessible in the program itself. An “i in a circle” info button, or something. Definitely not a post in a blog somewhere.

6) Landscape mode. That the iPad app doesn’t support landscape mode is a gross abomination against God.

That’s it for me, and thanks to the people at Source Audio for being accessible and open to customer feedback.

The unused space is essential for the mobile app, as you need lots of places on the screen to scroll with. So if they did make the screen space more tight, a scroll-slider area might work, but that is so dependent on the device. As folks may have a phone in one hand and instrument on other, which side the scroll is on would need to be a preference.

5) Onboard documentation.

Out in the pedal selector, there could be an option that the "i" could open the manual in the default PDF reader. Or just add an "m" for manual. For the desktop app, having hover over tool-tips to show an explanation of the current control would work. For the mobile app, perhaps long-pressing on the slider or button?

For the mobile apps, more and improved graphics. Routing options is one place.

Since the headphone --> IN-2 data option allows you to address daisy-chained pedals, would it be possible to send PC's to each of the pedals in the daisychain from the mobile app via this data method? If so, maybe SA could add a new mode to the mobile app for rig management & set lists.

Might be cool to close the gap between what is available via mobile app and desktop.

Do you mean something different than the copy settings buttons in desktop app? Or is it not available for other pedals?

The copy option the Aftershock is fine. However, with more complex devices like the Ultraware or the C4, it would be a lot more useful to be able to copy individual blocks or groups of settings. Either within the current channel or between channels.
So for instance, with the C4 it would be cool to be able to copy an entire voice block of settings and apply them to another Voice (say 3 to 1).
Or with the Ultrawave, it would be good to be able to copy just the compressor or EQ blocks to the other channel. Currently, it's a copy the entire channel approach. If I want to copy the subset then it's a case of screen sniping it and manually dialling a load of settings from a screen grab.

It would be helpful if the app made clear which settings are global and which are saved with each patch.

As a general request for the pedals, it would be great if these routing options were added:

Input 1 to series processing, mono to output 1
while Input 2 direct/dry to Output 2

Input 2 to series processing, mono to Output 2,
while Input 1 direct/dry to Output 1

This would provide some useful parallel processing through pedals
while allowing the headphone-based data stream to run through
the daisy-chain.
 
The phone app needs to have the ability to browse presets on the attached device. I can browse my community patches and the cloud patches, but I can't see any of the patches that are actually stored on the pedal. It also means that I can't use the app if my mobile 3G/4G signal is weak.
It would be a far superior tool if I could plug my phone into any one of my Source Audio One Series pedals, for the app to detect the device and load up the currently selected patch and allow me to "on the fly" edit any of those parameters.
Some of the C4's functions / buttons / parameters can only be changed using a Phone or desktop editor. Not everything is mapped to a midi CC control (easpecially true of some of the on/off buttons). The only way to access these functions is to plug it in. Unfortunatly, the phone app is so clunky, I either have to back up all of the presets to my account / cloud or I need to write an entirely new patch every time i want to edit one setting.

This would be great, but I was under the impression that it’s dependent on what the given phone manufacturer allows. I have an iPhone mounted to my pedalboard, and I would expect in typical Apple fashion that access to and from attached devices is stupidly limited.

Are you using USB with the phone, or the Audio Jack?
 
Audio Jack, should I use the USB port instead? I'm guessing that's a more complicated cable requirement.
We have made a big investment recently in firmware in the pedals and hooks in the Neuro Mobile app to allow for bidirectional communication between pedals and phones via USB. The fact that you are not aware of this means we are doing a lousy job of communications!

In the case of Android its easy: USB micro to USB C. With iOS, one needs a lightning to USB connection.

I have been looking at which pedals are supported, and I am embarrassed to say that I am not sure. I think its: C4, Spectrum, Atlas, Ultrawaves, EQ2, Nemesis, Ventris, Collider, and maybe the True Spring. I will find out.
