Source Audio SB2 MIDI Hub

You just have to find the latest hex firmware file for the hub. It should be located in /Applications/Source Audio Soundblox Hub Manager/hub firmware (if you used the default install location).

All of the firmware files should be in subfolders in your Applications folder for the Hub Manager. One for the Hub and a separate one for the Pedals. You'll note that the titlebar of the file picker window details the model number of the pedal you're attempting to update, this helps you pick the correct firmware update file with the matching model number. Additionally, an error message should be invoked if you happen to pick the wrong file for the pedal you're attempting to update.

Would an ipad with camera kit be able to control scene changes? I think the next step for me is the hub but I do t have the scratch for a hub and a midi controller. Hopefully I can get by with the ipad for a while until funds allow a proper foot switch midi controller.

Is it also possible to control sb2 pedals without the Hub? Say I had my OFD and added a Manta, would there be any benefit of having a foot witch midi controller first? Would I only be able to still have 2 presets?

Either way in the long run I'm wanting to get a hub and controller, just trying to research which would be more ideal to go after first.

To source audio, seriously you guys are genius! I don't even feel the need to go after anything else at the moment because my options become enormous with little gear with all the midi capability and scene saving options. Good job!

If you want to talk to a SB2 pedal with more than just a Hot Hand or expression control signal, then you need a Hub. There is no other way.

Yes, you can use iPAD and camera kit. I believe that Gadget Junky has done this successfully.

which only has a usb socket, connected direct to the usb port in the hub, without using a PC/Mac

Just got the hub and the first testing was pretty positive. I just hooked it up to my Invalid Link Removed and was able to dial in a setting and then hold the button for saving the scene. This worked several times pretty good, then sometimes I pressed the buttons for the store settings again and it didn't change anything. I was going back and fourth a little bit, sometimes it worked, sometimes it didn't.
However, this is just me pushing buttons and stuff. Probably has nothing to do with the product, just unexperienced me...

But to recapitulate:
I select a switch on the midiboard, then dial in a setting and then hold the lower button to save the scene. What happens if I then push one of the buttons on the pedal?
What is the recall button for? Recall which last setting? The one I used, the one I saved...?

So far liking this very much. Device looks good. However, just one lonely poor OFD is connected. Might change anytime :hiding:
Next step is making the thing work with the TC G-System.

I finally bought a OneControl Gecko to control my HUB. Comes in the mail today & I finished a record a day early so I have my whole Friday to geek out!

A new (old) Rickenbacker to mess with, new Source gear & the wife out of town = a noisy weekend!

Since I am not a MIDI expert, I am going to put this into plain terms that I can understand.

Lets assume that you just have the Hub and one pedal (no MIDI controller). You press the scan button. The Hub looks around and sees what is connected. It says, hey! I got an OFD out there. Assuming you have updated the OFD via Hub and USB, then they can talk to each other. the Hub is able see all of the settings on the OFD. When I press and hold the scan button, then the Hub will save all of the Hub settings to its default save location. You can then mess with the OFDD all you want, but when you press recall, the Hub will tell the OFD to go to the settings that were saved to the Hub. It is really that simple. When you connect up more SB2 pedals, it will do the same thing with them too. This collection of settings is called a "scene".

Now, there is one limitation with what I describe above. With no MIDI controller, the Hub can only save one single scene. When I connect a MIDI controller, I can give the Hub an address from 0 to 127. The Hub can actually save 128 scenes, but it needs to have an external device give it an address where to save the information. Hub users use a variety of devices for doing this (MIDI Mouse, Gecko, iPAD, etc.). Same rules apply. Give the Hub an address. Press and hold the save button. The Hub will save the settings of the SB2 pedals to the scene at that address. You can then mess with the SB2 pedals any way you want (including using their internal presets), but when you reload the address to the Hub, it will recall the scene across all the SB2 pedals.

I hope this is clear and I hope the experts think I have explained it correctly!!

The HUB works great with the Gecko!

No problems, works as advertised out-of-the-gate. Instantly went from 2 presets with my SB2 pedals to over 100. I guess I'm gonna have to start carting around the Gecko and Expression pedal as well. The HUB is small enough to fit under my board. I love that you can set up different preset scenes with the expression pedal controlling different functions and/or different pedals.

HUB control over the Programmable EQ works, but is limited. Basically, midi programs 0,1,2 and 3 access the 4 presets and midi program 5 bypasses the EQ. It would be nice if the Programmable EQ could be updated to act like the SB2 pedals in terms of scenes?
