I have tried to respond to the questions below. Hope this is all clear. I am going to add the FAQ to the end of the presentation I put on our site as well.
Q: Will it pass MIDI Clock messages for use with the BEF Pro?
A: If a MIDI clock is fed to the HUB via the MIDI input or the USB input, then it will be passed to the MIDI output.* If the BEF Pro is connected to the MIDI out of the HUB, then it will see the clock. For now, none of the Soundblox 2s will respond to MIDI Clock.* However, we have the option of adding this functionality later.
Q: Does this render the Multi-Function Out port on most Soundblox pedals obsolete (or at least diminish their importance) or do those outputs need to be hooked up in some kind of loop with this device?
A:* No there is no need to loop things back.* The M-F Out will pass MIDI messages down the chain, but it is not possible for the HUB to see a SB2 pedal further down the chain.* The M-F out is certainly still helpful for people NOT using the HUB and when using Hot Hand or the Dual Expression pedal.
Q: What exactly is a Scene? Just a combination of presets (and ON/OFF state)
A: When directed, the HUB is capable of detecting SB2 pedals and talking to them.* It can capture and save all of the settings of up to 5 SB2 pedals. Its essentially a multi-pedal preset that is stored in the Hub.
Q: I'm curious as to what they mean by 'scenes'. Does it mean I can have 128 presets for my BEF Pro, or does it mean it can load for example preset 4 on a MWBD Pro and preset 2 on the BEF with the press of one button? on each pedal connected to the ControlBox or is it more than that?
A:* You can send program change messages to Pro pedals via MIDI.* The limit is currently 6 presets for the Pros.* Its important to note again, that only Soundblox 2s implement the scene saving features.
Q: Will the ControlBox convert MIDI CC to Exp out, or EXP to MIDI CC?:
A:* MIDI CC to expression out is a no since the expression jack is only an input.* EXP to MIDI to CC is possible but not supported yet.Q: Will it route the same expression pedal to the desired pedals according to the Scene?:
A:* If the EXP and or Hot Hand are connected to the HUB, it sends a Sensor signal to the Pros/SB1s.* The HUB also converts this to a MIDI message and sends it to the SB2s.* If the SB2s are set to act on an expression pedal or hot hand, then it will use it.* The expression and Hot Hand are always available to the connected SB2s.Q: When controlling SB2 pedals via MIDI will they be "distinguished" by MIDI Channel?
A:* Only if TWO of the exact same type of pedal are being used (e.g. 2 Orbital Modulators).* Otherwise, there is an exclusive CC MIDI map that allows up to 10 potential (only 6 for now) SB2 models to use a single MIDI channel. Q: Will this work also as a USB MIDI interface?
A:* When connected to a computer, it looks like a generic MIDI device.* Currently, MIDI messages sent from a computer to the HUB will be passed on to the connected SB2 pedals.* Messages are not yet echoed on the output, although we could probably do this.* MIDI input on the jack is not sent to the PC for now.
Q: I also assume that I will need a midi controller to change presets.
A: For now, yes.* We certainly see a path to a HUB with an embedded MIDI controller.* This obviously requires more UI/footswitches, etc.* We wanted to make the first version simple and inexpensive.Q: Can you save presets from the Pros to the Hub?
A: No.* The Pros support only MIDI in.* There is no up-stream communication.
