Here are the Manta settings we are using at NAMM for doing the bass wobble with hot hand. Both Jon and Nathan have been using it all show.
Effect: single peak #6
Depth set at 1-2 oclock
Frequency set at 9 oclock
Resonance fully counterclockwise
mix is full clockwise (full wet - no low retain)
drive is at 2 oclock
distortion type either 5 or 6
modulation source is Hot Hand
speed knob should match what works for the player

The HH 3 - right out of the box - green lights - x axis only

Thanks for this! I did write the guys earlier and I'll see what they say, but I'm excited to try this out. One thing I did not realize is that the SPEED knob actually did something while using the Hot Hand, but I just looked at the manual and it does indeed!

I have two quick follow-ups, if you don't mind:
(1) The HH3 manual says that all green is X-axis for expression and X and Y for the Sensor Output, with the sensor output "unprocessed"---you said X-axis only. Is there something I'm not understanding here? (I also don't totally get what Sensor Output "unprocessed" means is---I feel the manual is a little unclear on this, but I gather that the Smooth and Depth on the HH3 receiver do not affect the signal in this mode.)

(2) Where/how are they calibrating the ring, and what finger do they wear it on? (It looks like Nathan is a thumber from his demos.)

I tried them out. Thanks Roger, that got me a LOT closer and gave me a starting point for tweaking. The HH3 settings and the Depth and Speed knobs were key; I think I'll try some different things with the filter and drive, but I'm in the ballpark. Also, I found actually using the HH3 much easier, though it's obviously something that requires practice, and I respect even more what Nathan, Will, and others do now.

You, Will and Nathan are artists. Hot Hand is intended for artists first and foremost, hence there is a natural learning curve for all as you find your way!

My manta came today in the freezing cold! I'm having some fun with it. Took a break to eat but I'm about to go back to it soon. Very cool pedal. I can't quite say I'm falling for filters again, but I do have to say I'm enjoying the manta very much. It's crazy the amount of settings and sounds you can get out of this one pedal. Paired with the orbital it's even better :)

Now that I've owned the Orbital for about a week and a half and really spent some decent time with it: it really is my one-stop for my modulation needs! It is VERY versatile and I have yet to make a sound that I have in my head that it can't make. Now I really need a Dual-Expression Pedal (got rid of my old Boss FV-500L to mkae room for it!). Going to use it to control the Orbital,HOG and when not being used by the Orbital a Behringer BSY-600. Also looking at (eventually) getting a HH3 to hook up to my WMD Super Fatman

I'm curious, given you have two presets to work with on the SB2 pedals, when you are running both presets at the same time, is it a serial or parallel mix?

Can you choose which?

If serial only, which comes first; left to right, right to left, or whichever you engage first?
Can you engage 1 then 2, (for 1 > 2), then disengage and then reengage 1 (for 2 > 1)?

Or is it one preset at a time only?

Thanks, I couldn't find this information in the manual...

It's all parallel, so you should be able to distinctly hear a blend of each effect from each preset.

Yes, I'm curious about this too. Somewhere in this thread (I think) someone said something about the being able to "morph" between presets using the HH3, but I saw nothing remotely along these lines in the manual.

A parallel blend?

I was thinking of using (for example) the Orbital Modulator:

Preset 1 is chorus
Preset 2 is phaser

I engage 1, then 2... so I have chorus > phaser.
Then I disengage 1, and then engage 1 again... now I have phaser > chorus.

But no, it's chorus||phaser, or phaser||chorus.. either way it sounds the same.

Hmm... I wish there was a way to switch parallel to serial, and vis-verse.

One of the draws toward multi-fx units is the ability to preset different serial combinations of effects. For analog, the best option is separate effects pedals hooked up to a midi controller with presets (like a Crocodile Tail or EFX MK-III or similar). I was hoping the SA pedals offered this with their presets.

So to be clear, if I want chorus into phaser or vis-verse (series), I would need two Orbital Modulators hooked up in series, one with phaser||chorus set, one with chorus||phaser set. Then I would just switch on/off the appropriate combinations to get whatever serial blend I wanted (or use the upcoming Hub to create a scene of the two). Right?

Just trying to wrap my head around this...

Pretty much all of the SA pedals only allow you to run one preset at a time.

It is possible to blend/morph between two different presets when using the SA distortion pedals (Multiwave, OFD, Classic, etc.) that have multiple presets (Pro models and SB2 models). My impression is that this blending process is fully parallel but it is important to bear in mind that the effects are being blended and not stacked on top of each other, per se.

I don't own any SA distortion pedals so hopefully somebody will correct me if I got this part wrong!

Most of the SB2 product line (and most of the pros) DO NOT allow you to gang things up. For instance, you cannot assign a chorus to preset #1 on the Orbital, assign a Phaser to preset #2 and then turn both of those effects on at the same time. Sorry about that. Perhaps in the future when we have more DSP horsepower we can pull something like that off, but for now it is only one effect on at a time.

Now, there is one exception to what I have said. All of the distortion SB2's (and I think the Pro's too, but don't quote me on that just yet) ALLOW FOR PRESET MORPHING. This means that you can use either Hot Hand, an expression pedal, or a MIDI controller to go from the sound on preset #1 to the sound on preset #2 and then anywhere in the middle. It is not a fade or blend, it is a morph.

There is one other exception I can think of: the tremolo on the orbital can be applied to any of the effects in that box.
