Source Audio Sourcerers Society (S.A.S.S.) Pt 2

You can run both presets at the same time on the SA2 series??

No. The morph function just turns the values of the knobs towards the next preset. You don't get 2 independent sounds either mixed or in series.

That's my understanding from the manual posted above.

Need to update my SA Pedals Owned thing, sold my Orbital to get a Manta.

Holy Moses this thing is wicked.

I wanted to get it to see if I could implement some dubby stuff into my sound and jeebus, the amount of options on here is insane. I put it right into extended mode and figuring out which of the 24 options are best for me.

Wow is all I can say right now.

I put it right into extended mode

Other than being overwhelmed by the options and needing to turn the knob more to get to different settings, I totally failed to see the downside of Extended Mode. That's totally where I am right now.

Most of the SB2 product line (and most of the pros) DO NOT allow you to gang things up. For instance, you cannot assign a chorus to preset #1 on the Orbital, assign a Phaser to preset #2 and then turn both of those effects on at the same time. Sorry about that. Perhaps in the future when we have more DSP horsepower we can pull something like that off, but for now it is only one effect on at a time.

Now, there is one exception to what I have said. All of the distortion SB2's (and I think the Pro's too, but don't quote me on that just yet) ALLOW FOR PRESET MORPHING. This means that you can use either Hot Hand, an expression pedal, or a MIDI controller to go from the sound on preset #1 to the sound on preset #2 and then anywhere in the middle. It is not a fade or blend, it is a morph.

There is one other exception I can think of: the tremolo on the orbital can be applied to any of the effects in that box.

Hope this makes it all clear.

I hope this is really clear.

Yep, totally clear. Thanks. :)

I can imagine to allow for two effects at once with parallel/serial switching would require double the processing power (processing two signals at once), and/or a compromise in other features. I just look at all the sound possibilities of the Orbital and think 'I WANT THEM ALL AT ONCE... ALL OF THEM... AT ONCE! heh.

What it is for me is that I'm beginning to understand that 'multi-effects unit' is a term applied to different devices with different design goals. I get that finally, I think.

In any case, the Orbital is topping my GAS list. I wants it.... hurry up tax return!

What's this "extended mode" you guys are referring to? Did I miss something? Sorry for the ignorance.

The BEF Pro had like 22 filters. It was overwhelming for some folks. On the Manta we reduced it to 12 to make it a bit more simple. If you buy a Manta, and wish you had 22 filters rather than 12? Go into extended mode.

Just so you know, we leave ours in simple mode all the time. That collection of filters covers lots of ground.

I don't know about the BEF Pro, but extended mode on the Manta is 24 filters. (I hesitate to correct the Prez, but I'm pretty sure I've read the manual correctly! :hiding::D)

After 20 I stopped counting!! :eyebrow:

The original BEF was 21. The BEF Pro is 22 plus an "EQ only". Manta has no EQ only setting, so yes...you are right...24 on Manta in extended mode.

Correcting the Prez is always A-OK. The SA guys do it to me all day long :help:
