Double Bass Space between nut and top of fingerboard?

With my eyes even with top of the fingerboard, looking at the nut-fingerboard intersection from the side of the bass, I see light coming through between the nut and top of the fingerboard. It seems like this "disconnectedness" would decrease sustain and tone. Is this something that should be repaired?
Thanks
Steve

I wouldn't think it would matter at all. Try looking again this summer when the humidity is high. The crack might not even be there then.
