Try to relax. There are some very real threats in the world that have to do with intolerance and mammailian defensive, tribal behavior that have brought us immediate danger. A plan to feed 9 billion people in about 50 years is going to be handy, too.

I think if we don't resolve those issues, the sky falling upon us could be a blessing.

Until then, I think I'll find a few 85 mph roller coasters to ride. It gives me perspective.

We actually agree more than disagree, right down to our methods of acquiring perspective. (The more times I'm upside down, the better my perspective, don't you agree? )

You are of course completely correct, we do have many pressing issues to attend to, but my mind always goes to the ones that will eliminate any other problems first - fix the BIG issues, deal with the small ones after....and a "dinosaur killer" is bigger than pretty much anything else, IMO...plus, well...space stuff is cool.

Preparing for threats from a meteor/asteroid strike may be arranging deck chairs on the Titanic. The global weather crisis, as slow as each day, will probably bring about more havoc, famine and drought than any celestial bean ball. Bruce Willlis just hasn't played the part yet, but from what I've seen with my own eyes on the north slope of AK, things are changing. From the drought in Southeast to the Southwest, to the floods in the midwest and northeast, we are already in a transition period. I'm learning to play DB so I can early a living after electricity isn't so readily available (should I live that long).

Asteroid impacts cause huge amounts of dust in the atmosphere and this results in global cooling. Ideally, the two effects will cancel each other out and we'll be sitting pretty.
