Just 12 months until the next solar eclipse here. Last time 2017(?) I drove 900 miles with my daughter. This time we can just stay at home. Can’t wait.
Wow. Was only originally scheduled for 5 test flights, 50 flights and still setting new records is pretty amazing! I'm hoping whoever designed it is getting recognized for kicking some major @$$!!
I need to pay attention as the week unfolds. Hopefully the time lines up for me. I Have to see this. Don't want to watch the video later. Have to see it live. If it happens during work and I am not in a meeting, I will have to sneak a peak.
I frankly have been very surprised by the journey leading up to this. I know Elon's history well, but, I Still believed this first attempt was going to happen a long time ago. Some of that gets put out there by all the YouTube videos with headlines claiming any minute now. Some of those YouTubers have been doing that for a Long time.
I was surprised that the furthest they got in testing was 31 engines at partial thrust. I would have expected they go further before first launch. I feel like that pad is going to take a major hit after try #1, and it will lead to another significant delay in progress.
Have also been surprised with the tiles. That thing, if it makes through a journey, is going to return with a whole lot of tiles gone.
This is revolutionary, and I'm sure someday it will yield. But I was always hoping to see, in the interim, a derivative of Heavy with a larger capsule with Draco variants for landing and lift from the moon. That would have accomplished lots of stuff short term while Starship comes to life. Still can't believe it was chosen for a lander. Doesn't make sense to me, for round 1 of the return to the moon.

Well look at the competition it's running against - Spaceship is at least as far along and "real" as the competition (much of which is vaporware). And I understand Musk's desire (nay, need) to "put all resources forward" - yes, he's making a big bet, trying to force it to happen via will alone. I wouldn't bet against him. Far better to sink those resources into the future than building gimmicks on the past...

The selection of that for the next lander, though, by NASA, is unfathomable, IMHO.
It's very important to return to the moon and to legit space exploration. Now.
[That's a statement by a U.S. citizen, for the U.S. and for general democracy, and it has tons of political and freedom overtones that I won't get into here.]
SpaceX has the can do culture to get us back there - close to now - if we didn't bet the farm on Starship.
If, a couple of years ago, we locked and loaded on Falcon Heavy and Dragon derivatives for the return to the moon, we'd be back there today.
Correct. But IMHO, that's a "Moon sooner, Mars never" kind of plan. And we know how Elon feels about Mars!
