spacing & scale important?

Adrian, that was my main complaint with my BN6--the super low output. Switching from that one, to one of my Roscoes, or to my Modulus Q6, was a HUGE difference in volume.

I liked the 19mm spacing for slapping, it was great for that. I also felt right at home on the 34.5" scale (my other two 6er's I had at the time were both 35"). But when it came to fingerstyle, I found I was quite a bit quicker/more precise on my slightly narrower spaced Roscoes (18mm) and Modulus (17mm).

So, I think that string spacing has more of an impact on me than scale length does, now that I think about it.

Lakland got it right for me... 35" scale and 19mm spacing.

I love that wide spacing.

34 for five strings. With a 35 I feel like I am stretching to the North Pole to hit the first fret position. 34 is less of a workout.
I also like 30's for 4 stringers. As far as spacing goes 17.5 is perfect for me although I can fend with a 16.5 and an 18.
A 19 is too wide for a fiver but not a four. It's all Greek when you really think about it. OPA!

Not really. I like at least 34" scale, as I always have a B string on hand, but even that's up for grabs if it's got a solid B. Anything over 34" is cool; I've played a couple Dingwalls, and I can live with even that. I'd have to play a full 37"+ (not fanned) bass to truly know if longer scales bother me, but for the time being, I'm being optimist about it.

String spacing has never been an issue for me.

Thank you Adrian! I've been harping on this for YEARS and always blown off because an inch / millimeter don't make a difference.

I choose to only play 34" scale basses with 19mm bridge spacing as well as a wide & flat neck profile.

I just bought a Yamaha TRB fretless (searched high and low to find a 35" scale fretless, that would fit in my limited budget), on which I just have to put a new bridge, because stock spacing is tighter, by the smallest amount... it measures 18.5mm, but I´m sensitive to it, so a new bridge is needed. Luckily the neck takes 19mm spacing just fine...

Why isn't spacing always mentioned on manufacturer's specs????

It's the first thing that I look for and then usually have to search here to find the answer

Ryan, I am dealing with the low output right now.. but man, if it is the only way to get that F bass tone, I will deal with it. The lo b on the Roscoe can actually be too big for me. When I had my skb6, I had to use the compressor on the pre I was using to tame the lo b.
And I play the F in humbucking, can't deal with hum, most of the time so that is even lower output. But it sounds good when I turn up!
