speaker blown?

this may be a question that has an obvious answer- but I don't know it... how can I be sure if my speaker is blown?

I have a Hartke HX112 and have noticed some 'deep scratching' noises when I hit certain mid-low notes... anyway... is there a way to physically test a speaker?

You can gently press around the voice coil with your fingertips using even pressure, and if you feel rubbing, the voice coil's fried. Could be other reasons, though...loose screw letting air out, wires hitting into the speaker from the inside, loose baffle or grill, loose can lining inside...happening on only certain notes makes me wonder if it's something else and not the speaker. Usually you can hear blown speakers on every note.

Thx Jimmy... will give it a shot... hoping it's not blown! (forgot that's how we checked stereo speakers- back in the day... when we had 12" woofers in the living room!)

I love this cab when paired with my Markbass 112 combo... will need to figure out how to replace it with a similar driver if it is blown... will need to contact Hartke to find some kind of match... but... hopefullt it's just something loose!

so- happened to find my receipt... two months left on a three year warranty... took to repairman today... new driver on the way!!
