speaker buzz

So, I have been playing the same cab for about a year now. It is a hartke 410TP. Recently the bottoml eft speaker seems to have a buzz in it. The buzz is not like a grounding buzz and is only preasent when playing. I thought it might of been some loose but i clean around the speaker and it is still present. I know this question has probably ask before. thank you for any hints or ideas of what it could be.
Ps. I have not over powered the cab becouse, its a 300 watt cab and I have been using a Peavey Mark IV with it, which is about 175 watts at 8 ohms. :help:
 
pull the speaker and try a spare if you have one. not all speakers are created equal! although they are the same age and manufacturer, like tires on your car, sometimes one just gives earlier.

how does the surround of the speaker look? is it torn? the voicecoil could be starting to warp...just some thoughts.
 
Unfortunatly I dont have a spare but upon closer look I did notice that thier is a small pin hole on the outer edge of the cone. Could this be the issue? If so, I heard if you take some rubber cement and cover the hole it solves the problem. Any thought about that? thank you for the hints.

This is a very common misconception.............

The 300 watt rating you are referring to is a "thermal" limit for the voice coil to melt. It has NOTHING to do with mechanical damage that can occur when pushing a speaker too far (hint - most speakers run out of low end gas at less than half their thermal rating).

Additionally, your 175 watt rating for your amp is for "clean wattage". If you are pushing your amp, you can easily be sending double that wattage in transients and spikes.

well, if there is a hole, then try repairing it from front and back with a small amount of rubber cement. this may solve the problem, but if anything it will prevent the hole from getting bigger.
