This spring I'm looking at selling my motorcycle (which I don't spend nearly enough on, for the money I have into it); in the summer humidity I'd rather be kayaking anyway.

When it sells, I'll have a chunk of change to buy anything I want, This is my list so far, but I'm not sure what I want with the cabs. I know it's probably over kill for my level now, but NOW is when I'm going to have the funds. It would suck to settle now, and later when I need to upgrade something, not be able to afford it.

I play a Peavey Millenium AC BXP 5

The GK is listed as 2-540W@2ohm, 1080W Bridged@4ohm, 1kHz -- Horm Amp 2-50w@8ohm, 5kHz.

FYI I just got rid of my rack system and replaced it with the GB Shuttle 6.0. The Shuttle is pretty amazing and weighs less than 3 lbs. It sounds very warm AND powerful. My rack consisted of a Demeter HBP-1 and Behringer EP1500. I had incredible tone with that setup. Let me tell you that the Shuttle gives me all that tone and punch without the weight. I know that you were posting about cabs, but take a good look at the Shuttle. You will be very surprized.

If you've got a serious chunk of change to spend on a new rig, why not aim higher than GK? There's great stuff to be found. Like mentioned, Genz Benz. Aguilar. Eden.

Not that serious a chunk... what I've listed is about 2k.

I'll have between 2.5 and 3.5 to work with total, by the time I add decent cabs to the above I'm spent.

My recomendation would be to check out some Mesa bass gear. The Powerhouse cabs are tight, and any of the MPulse line amps are fantastic. Just my 2 cents

So, why the duplication of the BBE and the head? Wouldn't it make more sense to pick either/or? If you are going with a head, I would HIGHLY recommend a Genz-Benz GBE-1200, which I have and like a LOT more than the GK stuff. I really like the ability to get a tube growl, which you can't do with the GK. When you throw in the ability to switch between and blend tube and FET channels you have an amp that just kills.

Also, the power conditioners are not really needed most places - YMMV. I ditched mine because it added weight and only functioned as a power switch for me - cool lights but I could do without it.

Also, if you are looking at cabs - I have had both the Berg NV-610 and (my current) Accugroove Whappo Jr. Both are SERIOUSLY good and you can find them used at a pretty good discount (less than $1000).

I was looking at combining the BBE with the head for the Tube growl. The GK Head was SS, I was adding the tube pre-amp soley for flavor.

I have reconsidered and am looking at the Peavey Pro 2000

More watts, still Bi-amp, with two built in Pre-amp, one tube one SS.

Seriously, check out the Suttle 6. The tube is designed for the warmth AND if pushed a great growl, unlike the Demeter that was only made for a clean tone. Check out the threads that have convinced many a player that this unit is a giant killer.
