Speaker Cabinet for "66 Band Master

Can anyone recommend a builder who can build a two twelve, or two ten speaker cabinet for my 1966 Fender Band Master?

I don't like the looks of the Mojotone cabinets and I am not looking for an exact reproduction of any particular cabinet that Fender actually made back then but I do want it to look just like something Fender made with threaded inserts on top to mount the amp and, tilt-back legs. Possibly one that can be open or closed back by having a removable back center panel, or open back like a typical combo cabinet, but definitely not sealed like the original cabinets were. l want it to be as small and light as possible (without using Neodymium speakers). I don't need maximum SPL.

I am considering ten inch Jensen C10Q or 12 inch Weber 12A125-O speakers. Feel free to comment on why the Jensen or Weber speakers I am considering are a good or bad choice for blues guitar use, or recommend something better. The Band Master is 40w, and requires a four Ohm load.

If anyone can recommend a reliable builder who does high quality work I would appreciate it.

Maybe I should consider a Vibrolux style two ten combo cabinet that would be lighter and less costly than a reproduction of the original three ten combo configuration.

If I separate the amp from its original head box I may place notes in both pieces explaining the situation in anticipation of the day I take the last steps in my inexorable march to the grave, so whoever liquidates my estate for the benefit of St Judes Children's Hospital will understand what they have.

You do realize that this is a bass forum? Not sure that many of us can give you useful input on your questions regarding a guitar cab. Maybe search for a guitar forum with an amps and cabs section.

MojoTone made 2 212 bassman cabs for me back in '94. I'm sure they could make whatever you wanted.

I use an Avatar 2x12 with a Bandmaster Reverb head. Amazing the size of the head compared to the cabinet. Avatar will put any speaker you want in the their cabs.

One of my objectives is that whatever cabinet I have made looks like it could have been a stock Fender cabinet even if my specifications will be something that was never in the product line. The photos I saw of the Mojotone cabinets did not look like genuine Fender cabinets from the 1960s. I will take another look and may contact them to see if they will make for me a cabinet to my specifications while maintaining an authentic appearance.

You might try contacting LDS (low down sound), he builds all kinds of cabs and may be able to help with your speaker questions also. I owned two of his cabs years ago and they were top notch.

Wasnex, That Mojotone link you posted looks better than the ones I saw. I may not have been thorough when I looked at the Mojotone site. That Bassman sealed back cabinet is too big for what I want.

I have an actual later 1960s Fender (pre-drip edge) two fifteen cabinet stored away in a semi trailer full of stuff which I have never even connected to an amp, nor opened up to see what speakers are installed in it that is too big for what I want.

One thing I thought I may want would be a cabinet that looks like the old sealed back, but with three panels, such that the top panel would have the 1/4 inch jack, and one or two of the lower panels could be removed to give the properties of an open back cabinet. Or, just a back panel like a typical combo amp would have. I am still mulling those ideas over.

I will admit that I may tend to over think things when it comes to selecting the actual drivers I will use. I don't know if two tens will be noticeably smaller, lighter, or less SPL, but those are all features I desire.

If I decide on a two ten I will probably go with Jensen 8 ohm 35w C10Q speakers.

Edited to add: An enquiry and RFQ has been sent to Will at Armadillo Amp Works for a two-ten and a two-12 with removable back panel, tilt-back legs and some other stuff just now.

bherman, please don't take this the wrong way and consider this post to be more for entertainment purposes and not so serious (yet serious).

One reason I would not pose questions regarding speaker cabinets on a guitar playing web forum is because as a (dive-bar) sound guy many of the guitarists we encounter appear to be nearly deaf from playing way too loud, and despite having nice gear, and being able to play very well, they often seem to coax some of the most obnoxious tones out of whatever guitars and amplifier they may have. I never make critical remarks to my associate about anyone we work with while the show going on but often when we are in the truck on our way home he beats me to it and says exactly what I am thinking about what we just had to endure.

I was driving thru Wisconsin and came upon this company that manufactures fire suppression equipment, which I didn't know existed, and also no relation. Originally I installed a 7ender logo on the MojoTone cab. But I didn't want to deceive and was tired of explaining when someone would ask how old the cab was. So, during COVID I thought I'd replace the badge and stumbled on an ebay seller who made custom metal cut outs. Low & behold their stock included this badge. I asked the seller to modify [remove the outer circle] & reduce the size of the badge and a few days later it was on my cab.
