Anyone know what these are? I bought a 2x12 off Craig's that is a repurposed Crate G412. The speakers are 8 ohms according to meter but no labeling At all so no idea how much power they can take or if they are made for bass. My friends thinks they are Electro Voice.

In a Crate I highly doubt they're EV's if they're stock. Also, it's highly likely they're guitar speakers, since the G stands for "guitar."

Thanks jimmy, let me clarify this is not stock crate gear. It's a crate shell that someone put a new front baffle in to make a 212. The speakers are not original and are too beefy to be guitar speakers. I didn't see any numbers on them at all but I'll have to look again.

Try looking on the inside of the arms on the basket. Also on the backside of the cone. Sometimes the markings can be sneaky.

I found no numbers. That combined with the chromed out magnets And gold cylindrical push terminals make me think car stereo. Going once? Twice...

I'm tempted to agree but admittedly I know so little about car stereo speakers that I'm not any kind of an authority.

That's cool. They do have paper cones though - not plastic like most car stuff

And they have gasket material on the outer rim. I don't think car stuff has that either

They're not apart of the car audio scene, I know that much.

Look really closely at the back of the magnet. Can you make out now faded lettering?

I just looks like a mirror. In the middle there's a hole with a grill-looking thing at the bottom.

They're older pro-sound drivers of some sort...not car speakers. Aluminum dustcaps were once quite common and brightens up the tone a little. The magnets look a little EV-ish like my 15L but I can't be certain. There has to be numbers somewhere. Perhaps the magnet backs have been painted over, or you're missing something, or maybe they were OEM sourced from who knows where.

Friend of mine had a 12L. Something about the frame doesn't seem right but that was years ago...I could be wrong.
