Speaker Simulation D.I. Box?

Yes, that might be the best solution. I have had my eye on Radial and I AMP mini solutions.

There are various flavors of cab sims you can use and or buy, from simple analog filters to dsp based things. A speaker does several things to a signal:
1) It rolls off low end. If you're simulating any commercially available bass guitar cabinet, this rolloff is significant. You may want that. I don't - I play places with very good PA's, that last thing I want is to lose solid low end.
2) It rolls off high end - assuming you're not simulating something with a tweeter (which I definitely don't want). I do want rolloff in my high end, as it helps with hiss, and takes some of the sting out of my clank, and removes fizz when I'm using dirt (truth be told, though, when I use dirt, it's rather subtle)
3) it has non - linearities - these may or may not be reflected in a speaker simulation. As I have dirt pedals for non- linearity, I can do without this.
The upshot of all this for me is: a simple lowpass filter works very well for what I want out of a cab sim. My pedalboards use either a Broughton low pass filter, or I have a lowpass as part of my eq in a Source Audio EQ2. With either of those approaches, if I need more or less rolloff, it's something I can dial in pretty easily.

My first thought is Tech21, they make great stuffI currently use an all analogue pedalboard with a Sansamp Programmable as my last pedal that I use for three tone selection and DI. I would like to add a limiter pedal AFTER the Sansamp so am looking to buy a D.I. box to have last in my chain. I thought it would make sense to use a D.I. with speaker simulation to improve my FOH sound when not mic'd up. Any recommendations? They all seem to be aimed at 6-string so are probably voiced inapropriately for bass.... Keen to avoid digital solutions at this stage.
I totally get that mind-logic would dictate that you would want the pedal compressor to live before the thing that you use as an 'amp' (amp sim) because an amp is the last thing in the chain but if it helps to think of it that in a studio setting the bass signal would get compressed/limited AFTER the signal has gone through the amp, mic and mic preamp. That's how I get around putting things like reverb and trem after my amp sim pedals in my head. On first glance I feel that it's wrong but then i just think "hey it still works, and works better for me"
