SPEAKER SIZE AND SOUND QUALITY

From a technical standpoint keep in mind two factors. First, no one driver size is capable of covering the entire frequency range. The minimum required is two, and three is better. Second, when using different size drivers they should not operate simultaneously within the same bandwidth, but rather should use a crossover, either active or passive, so that they operate independantly within their own frequency passbands.
Adhering to these guidelines rules out the vast majority of available bass cabinets and/or combinations of cabinets, especially in the lower price range. OTOH, many players have discovered that some PA cabs, which do by and large adhere to these guidelines, offer an alternative to electric bass cabs at reasonable prices. There are at least a couple of threads on this subject, and you should search them out as part of your research.
 
i currently use and swr 2-15 goliath(w/horn) and swr 4-10(w/horn). i have had this set up for years. when i use them together more of the sound spectrum is covered but i mainly just us the 2-15. a very important factor in the scenario is your amplification. my amp matches the rating of the cabinets. you do not want to get an amp that is putting out way less than what your cabinet can handle(that will result in not moving air at reasonable volumes). and you don't want to buy an amp that is too powerful for your cabinets(blowing out drivers). unfortunately this will result in you buy expensive high power amps because most decent cabinets out there have very high power capabilities. i have hughes and kettner bassbase 400 & 600(400 @ 4 ohms and 650 @ 4 ohms) and an swr stereo 800 power amp( 700 @ 8 ohms).
