Speakers in Fender Rumble Cabinets

I know the 10" drivers in the Rumble 500C combo are made in China for Eminence, but I don't know if they are clones of any of the US models.

The 10" drivers in the Rumble 40 are completely different and don't have the large magnet structures of the ones in the 500C.

There isn't much information to be found for either of these drivers.

Same 15' driver using on both 200c and 115cab.

I remember that early day both 500c and 210cab has same 10' driver before stage 800 launch. Correct me if I am wrong.

The 112 cab has different driver than 100c.

The drivers are made in China BY Eminence, not FOR Eminence.

The 40 watt combo uses a much smaller motor, because the moving mass is lower, the Xmax is lower and the power is lower. It's all proportional.

There were initially 2 models of the 10" drivers for the larger combos and cabinets but I heard that they ultimately ended up using the slightly higher powered of the two. (this was after I left Fender so I'm not sure of the sequence of events.) They are also made by Eminence in China.

Would it be a bad idea to put a 10” speaker from the rumble 2x10 speaker extension cab into a rumble 40 combo?
My 40 combo speaker went and I put a speaker from the 2x10 in it temporarily. It’s seems to be working fine, but the bigger magnet thing now has me thinking.

Did your original 10" in your Rum 40, begin farting out when pushed as in the usual speaker suspension "fatigue"? I rely on my Rumble 40 for regular rehearsals and worry about that very common speaker problem. So far, so good.

Iirc, the driver in the Rumble 40 is a little more efficient but lower power handling and a little less LF extension which better matches the lower powered head.

If the larger driver seems to work ok, there’s no real problem because the 40 watt amp doesn’t have enough power to damage it.

Also, the 40 watt combo may have had a 4 ohm driver if there was no extension speaker jack (don’t remember)

I bought it used. The previous owner put a replacement speaker in it. A proper replacement driver for that amp, can’t remember what make. I think I blew that speaker by testing an old microphone I bought at an antique market. As soon as I plugged it in and turned on the amp….Pop! Won’t be doing that again. So I put a speaker from my 2x10 rumble cab in it as a temporary replacement.

The Fender website makes a curious distinction between the speaker in the Rumble amps versus the Rumble cabinets...

What's the difference between an Eminence speaker and an Eminence-Designed speaker?? I'd love to see the insides to find out.

Edit: The 2x10 and 4x10 cabs both say Eminence; the Rumble 200 (1x15) and the 1x15 cab says Eminence-Designed; the Rumble 100 (1x12) says Eminence Special Design. I doubt they're being sloppy, and that these all mean slightly different relationships.

I've done just that and the volume dropped significantly.

The 10" drivers from the 210 combo are 16 Ohms each. The stock 10" driver from the Rumble 40 is 8 Ohms.At least that's how they measure in my gear. Other cabs/combos may be different.

It's either that or it is simply less efficient, but the volume did drop once I swapped out those drivers.

I don't know and have been wondering the same thing. The US Eminence models have quite a bit of information about them all over the web. The Chinese variants, not so much.

I believe all of the Rumble speakers are manufactured by Eminence DG in China, reading between the lines there are no significant differences (probably just a copy writer difference)

From what I remember, the Bassman line used Eminence US drivers.

The speakers in Rumble amps all "look" like certain, different models of USA Eminence speakers if you just glance at them. As has been discussed in other threads, they are actually different inside, but only share a similar frame. I learned about what can happen when you try to upgrade a speaker when I put in a better speaker into a Rumble 15. Now I know why people say you can't just do that at random. At least it wasn't a $200 speaker. Lesson well learned.

The USA and Chinese Eminence products share many of the same parts, it’s where they are assembled that differs.

Eminence China typically supplies amp manufacturers that are building throughout Asia, Eminence US typically supplies manufacturers building amps in the west. That way parts that are expensive to ship don’t end up getting shipped back and forth.

It would be nice if they were to let us know that Chinese EMI Model "X" is intended to be a replacement for a US EMI "Legend" or something like that.

I don't know enough about the different drivers to be able to look at something and say, "Oh yeah, that's the Chinese equivalent of their Delta/Beta/Legend/etc. driver."

Because like for all OEM drivers (Eminence China only manufactures for the OEM market, Eminence US manufacturers for both the OEM and retail branded markets), there are no equivalents because they are built to the OEM specifications (even if they look the same). For example, there are different compliance ranges for the same physical looking spider, the only way to tell is to test an unused spider on a compliance tester.

I've consistently read from various sources that the Rumble 500 combo, the Stage 800 combo and the 210 cabs, both silver and black, all share the very same Eminence manufactured 10" 16 ohm ceramic ferrite speakers wired in series to make an 8 ohm cab. I agree with agedhorse that the "different descriptions" with "designed by" and "Eminence designed" are just copy writer differences over time. They are "distinctions" without any real difference. Just like the published heights of these combos & cabs differ on the website by 0.7" due to sometimes including the rubber feet and sometimes not! :rollno:

The website also shows both the silver and black 210 cabs to be rated at 350 watts continuous when the black one is expressly intended for the Stage 800 (with the exact same internal speakers) which is rated at 400 watts into 8 ohms (both internal & extension)! Obviously the four years field experience, and assumed prototype testing, with those speakers found them sufficient for this higher power service. But, why they are not actually rerated to 400w is Fender's little secret.

Seems that enquiries to Eminence about these Rumble speakers can only get info about Eminence's "closest similar" consumer product, not the actual Rumble speaker. Since these are Fender OEM parts, albeit designed and/or manufactured by Eminence, apparently Eminence is contractually prevented from selling them directly or even sharing their details! Neither does Fender even sell them directly. Seems they are only available to Authorized Fender Service Centers for authorized replacement.

The manual says the Rumble 40 has an 8 ohm 10" speaker, even though it has no extension jack. So, it makes sense that a 16 ohm (temporary) replacement might not be as loud.

I was involved with some of the original (don't know what if any changes might have been made since then, after all almost 10 years has passed) Rumble (and Bassman) driver concepts. There were a couple of different Rumble drivers that were considered, perhaps it became clear that it was ultimately less expensive to source the same speaker for all of the combo/cabinet versions even if they may have been more than necessary. The guy ultimately responsible for the finished product did a nice job IMO, the results speak for itself.
