Speakers in Fender Rumble Cabinets

I was involved with some of the original (don't know what if any changes might have been made since then, after all almost 10 years has passed) Rumble (and Bassman) driver concepts. There were a couple of different Rumble drivers that were considered, perhaps it became clear that it was ultimately less expensive to source the same speaker for all of the combo/cabinet versions even if they may have been more than necessary. The guy ultimately responsible for the finished product did a nice job IMO, the results speak for itself.

That certainly fits with the conservative ratings reputation Fender has. Like the Rumble 200 combo, which can see up to 140 watts continuous, having the same driver as the 115 cab rated at 300 watts continuous. Sure seems like a lot of "giveaway" in the combo. But, I guess, if the economies of manufacturing and assembly are workable, it's better than saving a few bucks and risking your reputation by accidently putting some 150 watt speakers in some 300 watt "rated" cabs.

The conservative approach certainly goes back to the late Bill Hughes. When Genz Benz joined the Fender family, I was “grilled” by Bill about our designs. When he reviewed the thermal/current margins and simply smiled and said we would get along ok.

I've done just that and the volume dropped significantly.

The 10" drivers from the 210 combo are 16 Ohms each. The stock 10" driver from the Rumble 40 is 8 Ohms.At least that's how they measure in my gear. Other cabs/combos may be different.

It's either that or it is simply less efficient, but the volume did drop once I swapped out those drivers.

Yup! Going from 8 Ohms to 16 in a solid state amp will generally equate to the amp providing significantly less power to the speaker.

What's the difference between an Eminence speaker and an Eminence-Designed speaker?? I'd love to see the insides to find out.

Edit: The 2x10 and 4x10 cabs both say Eminence; the Rumble 200 (1x15) and the 1x15 cab says Eminence-Designed; the Rumble 100 (1x12) says Eminence Special Design. I doubt they're being sloppy, and that these all mean slightly different relationships.

It depends on the driver design. Some families are built to the same standards, some are not.
