Speakon Vs 1/4 inch

I view reducing resistive heat as a goal. Those #2 cables you referred to wanted upsizing, to my view.

Well, the EU's banning of 1/4 speaker connectors will likely drive the market towards Speakons. & bananas are going away in favour of Speakons in Pro Sound. I've no idea about home or low-level DJ stuff.

The lowest cost option, & a very good one especially for Installs, uses the 'banana' jack which is actually a 5-way binding post. Unscrew the 'jacks', & stick a bare wire through the hole you see, & tighten it up.
90 amps on #2 is well within its rating.......threading thru a binding post is an option only if the cable is smaller than the hole and no fun/time consuming in the dark recesses of gear racks.......

I love my Genz.. but speakons are a pain for me.. I don't always snap in fully.. my fault, I admit it.. but I prefer 1/4".. and most used cabs have 1/4"s.. which means a converter.

But I think the wave of the future=speak-on.. and as most cabs are coming out, they have BOTH options.. I just prefer standardization.. I suppose in 5 years.. speak-ons will be the norm, even among a lot of used gear.

so they were current 15 years ago.......and they're not now.......what does that say.......

My opinion? That despite being a brain dead design (You wanna use that amp in bridged mode? Hold on, let me get out a screwdriver.) Speakon connectors were very aggressively and successfully marketed.

This is of course incidental to the fact that this:

they are meant for home stereo stuff and are fairly light duty.....

is total nonsense.

This is the the rear panel of a GB 6.0.

If I'm not mistaken, those Speakon jacks are the combo-type that can accept 1/4" plugs as well as Speakon plugs. You should be able to use both types of plugs.

I've not had the opportunity to inspect or demo a GB 6.0, so I'm definitely not the authority.
