Special Edition Build Off - Happy Accidents

After the end of the last build off, there was quite a mess in the shop. I started cleaning and organizing, finding plenty of abandoned and paused projects needing a home. Doing some inventory, I realized I had enough on hand to actually put something decent together.
So when it was announced that there was another build off in the works, I was stoked!
And while this world-wide epidemic blows and is driving everyone nuts, if a build off can come out of it, that feels like a ray of hope in my book.

Here's the plans I've got for this special edition build-off -

Body: Mahogany core, walnut accent, curly birdseye faces. This was semi-wrecked by the router, but I saved it enough for a project just like this.

Neck: Hard maple with slight birdseye (new) with a Katalox fingerboard I cut with the wrong scale for another project and graphite rods and a truss rod I installed previously in a failed neck project.

Pickups: EMG 40JVX set that was pulled from a bass destined for a GC buy.

Bridge: ABM Roller that I just happened to have (new but was clearance stock from AP)

Tuners: Hipshot UL Chrome Y keys that I accidentally bought for a different project

Preamp: Nordy 2B that I previously bought "just in case"

Charmin is too valuable to use as a laminate. Maybe put a square on the headstock as a faceplate?

There is only one place that the Cottonelle Ultra is going these days and it's not related to bass (unless you are somehow connecting it to the "brown note"). We had to buy lesser TP and every square of this delightful stuff is going to be savored until it's gone.

Had the router not been so hurtful to this body, this may have gotten finished a while back and been in Roger’s collection now.
(Pretty sure he’s gonna be happy with the replacement though )

The symbols you drew would make great fret marker designs for a CV19 memorial build

Whenever I run out of coarse steel wool, I just use some basic Scott Tissue single ply TP to remove rust. That stuff is awfully abrasive.

As for the symbols... I guess we'll wait and see what happens

Had to change my title of this project.
See, I was thinking about the mistake I made when I first put this together. While routing along the pattern, the bit caught something good, the body jumped, and I was left with an absolutely mangled upper horn.

As it happens, I was wearing my favorite Bob Ross shirt today. That had me thinking about what Bob says:
"There are no mistakes, only happy accidents."

Well, this was a mistake, sure. I made a bad mistake in my technique with the router. But this is a chance to turn it into a "happy accident." First off, I got to keep this awesome body. Second, I get to use it in ANOTHER build-off. And third, it's a great mindset for this entire build: no matter what I do that isn't "perfect", make it into a happy accident.

That's kinda what I did with this horn, in the hopes it was salvageable. And honestly, it isn't terrible anymore.

So... I'm calling it "HAPPY ACCIDENTS" now.
This one's for you, Bob!
