Special Edition Build Off - Happy Accidents

Recently, I started watching him and listening to some of the nutty stuff he'd say and it was cracking me up. One of his repeated lines when he'd talk about catching a fish in a body of water he was painting was something like "I'll carefully take the hook out, put a bandage on him, pat him on the toot toot and send him on his way."
But the deeper message that ran through what he did seemed to be him trying his best to inspire people to try something that challenged them and not be afraid to do it... because the act of trying was a success in itself.
And if you make what you think is a mistake, learn by it, adapt to it, work with it... or paint a happy little tree over it. It's your world!

Started working on this yesterday, FINALLY! And wouldn't you know it, the happy accidents theme has already begun.
Cut the rear cover area and was trying to freehand a section inside of a template, only to slip out of bounds.
Oh well, that becomes the panel access scoop now.
The beginnings of contour shaping went well though.
When I first put this together, I thought I'd need rather thick walnut accent in there. So I made my own "veneers" to add to it. Now I see, a little goes a long way for accent layers. I don't hate it or anything, it kind of reminds me of early Tobias basses and their thick accent layer. But now I do know that a 1/42" veneer isn't that small in the grand scheme.

Funny, I got one delivered today too! I should just learn how to sharpen them...
You ever have one of those days where you just fly through stuff? Today was that day for me:
Did the carbon yesterday, epoxied, overnight cure, milled flat this morning.
Truss access detail:
Cut the neck pocket and it fit like a dream:
Then cut the pickup cavities:
As you can see, I cut channels in the core for weight reduction. I thought they may be too wide for the pickups, but they fit well. So that was cool!
I changed my preamp idea to the Status Board 303 that was in my first build. The thinking being, it's only active and so are the EMGs. My first build has Big Splits in it and could benefit from a bypass and passive tone and whatnot. So this gets the Status!
All that got drilled out, did a different battery cavity than the cubby, sanded it all nicely and figured now was as good a time as any to lay down a base layer of TruOil.
OOOH! It looks so hot. And it was thirsty, too, so I anticipate a lot more oil gets used.
Now... what to do about inlays? That is the question.

It's definitely a strange grain! They sold it to me as 'Curly Birdseye' but I don't know if it actually was. Looks killer though.
