That looks great. I have some copper paint that you have me wondering what it would look like under some candy red or green. I’ll add it to the ever growing, too lazy to complete list.

Just can't get tired of looking at that! Great color, excellent figured maple and obvious craftsmanship to pull it together. 
I think your photos do a great job showing off the various looks of the body. I know what you are saying about it being hard to capture the effect in pictures.
And that neck. Man, the birdseye over curly maple is crazy good. There are more exotic woods out there but I don't think any would be better than this for a P bass.

Oh, you should try it for sure. You can absolutely bet that I'll be doing some candy green in the future.

Thanks, I took around 400 shots over the past few days and it literally came down to a couple of dozen that looked halfway decent. Part of it is my lack of skill with a camera, and then throw in metallic paint and reflections and you've got a real battle.
I was worried about maple on maple, but I do think it came out OK. I've always wanted that combo of CAR and maple on a P bass... And I was really tempted to do a matching CAR headstock. But, I don't have a company name or logo... and I thought it might look a little goofy without something there... so I just went for the plain headstock. One of the nice things about nitro is that I can add any of the above later it will work perfectly.

Thanks, I really appreciate it! Yep, the entire finish is nitro. Mohawk instrument sealer, and gloss Piano Lacquer. I used the sealer not only as the seal coats, but also for the black coat which went under the gold pearl flake. I used Mixol UT to create the black lacquer.
The pearl flake was shot with a lot of reducer and a small amount of gloss. The clear red was made using WD Lockwood alcohol based powered dye. I mixed this first with acetone, then again into a lot of reducer and a small amount of gloss.
The top coats were straight gloss Piano lacquer, with the final coats including a heavy dose of retarder added to aid in flow out.

What a breathtaking finish. The 2 colours blend so seamlessly. Really something special. And Red is particularly hard colour to photograph digitally. Sometimes it comes out one way, sometimes another. My suggestion would be to photograph it at the end of the day, at sunset with the sun either coming from the left or right (not head on) And maybe for that photo, borrow the best digital camera you can find. Regardless, it is beautiful
Thanks, I appreciate it! There are some end of the day shots there which really capture it nicely using my Canon Rebel DSLR, not sure if you saw those. It's an intro level camera, but the best I've got!
Red is tricky for sure, but quite honestly, the color in the pictures I posted are very true to the real thing. It literally changes hue with lighting conditions. What is hard to correctly capture the gold pearl flake...
