Yeah I had first seen the samples on my tiny phone screen - looking at it now on the laptop, I agree. You don't want to be close. You want to be the same, or different.

And in that case, I like the burst idea!

Maybe try a tester of the raspberry with a bit of green mixed in. Being complementary colours, it should make a reddish-brownish hue.

I used the same process as for my winter build. The pictures below are from last December.

First, I get the thickness taper right. I mount the neck to stop blocks with different thicknesses. I put a collar an bit on the router table and take a few passes to get a rectangular profile neck.

I made a pair of jig arms that can be clamped on to each end of the taper. The profile of the jig arm defines the profile of the curve. Again, I use a collar and a plain bit. The jig arms act as stop blocks too. You can only do half of the neck at a time. The curved parts of the jig run against the table. I take shallow passes at different angles.

This will be the first time that I have had to angle the neck and have a couple of questions:

1. Is it better to cut the angle into the bottom of the neck pocket or to put a taper on the neck heel?
2. Does it matter whether I set the neck or bolt it on?

On the Special K, I cut the 8 deg angle into the pocket; didn't want to remove that much wood from the neck.
