Run the pump at 18v and you'll get close. Dare I say a little better for my tastes.

This is pretty damn cool. I love a good groove like give it a little grease. I couldn't play funk to save my life (not my thing I guess) but I dig a good funk band.

Set up the 435 with Blue Steels .050-.110 in "C" standard tuning. Better but still a little floppy. I guess I'll try the DDT DR .115's next. However, I've heard very mixed reviews. Not sure what to use honestly.

Yeah I did not like the sound of the DDT's when I had my 35" scale Lakland setup ADGCF. Not really "dead", but not really alive either LOL.

Personally I wouldn't want a low C string any lighter than 120. I actually did a lot of math to figure out the tension of D'Addario ProSteels at 35" scale since their chart assumes 34". They don't supply the numbers for the 120, but a 125 ProSteel tuned to a low C (32.7 Hz) at 35" scale is 35.7 lbs. of tension. That's a little tighter than a 130 tuned to B on the same instrument, but not too tight by any means. By comparison a 110 steel tuned to low C doesn't even make it over 30 lbs. of tension.

If DR supplied the unit weight of their strings we could calculate tension for them but they don't, so I use the ProSteels as a ballpark comparison to SS Lo-Riders since I believe both have hex cores.

If I was tuning C-standard (CFBbEb) I would probably do a 125-95-75-55 set of stainless steel strings. Maybe come down to 120-90-70-50 if they're nickels.

I tune drop C# with dunlop steels on a 34 scale. 115 set

Got the bass back yesterday. I haven't played it in a band setting but I played it at home and I am very impressed. The last time I put the 9 volt (haz) in a Euro it was with the newer style Euro Lx's and I was not to impressed. It gave me maybe 30-40% close to the Ns2 sound. Good if it cost me $100 but for $350??, not worth it. But with this Euro with solid maple wings I can say it gives me 80-85% close to the sound. But my major reason for the swap wasn't trying to duplicate the sound but put all basses close in gain territory. The sound closeness was just an added bonus. Mission accomplished!! I would recommend waisting the $350 if you have a euro with solid maple wings but if you don't keep your cash.

I would say everyone's experience is different. The difference I got with the pre-trimpot tone pump and US9V in my EuroLX was amazing.

But the US9V, as great as it is, is not going to be worth the extra money for some people. limaguy put up a comparison of an 18V tonepump, a US9V in a forte, and a US9V in a Kramer NS2. the 18V tonepump and the US9V forte sounded a lot closer to each other than the two 9V basses in my opinion.

Its a great preamp, whether it gets you what you want depends a lot on the bass. heck, I think the difference between old EMG's and modern EMG's may even make a bigger difference.
